JOB PROSPECT OF EMT/SALARY/ELIGIBILITY



Employment of Emergency Medical technician (EMT) is growing much faster than all other occupations. As population and urbanization is increasing rapidly, the demand of medical emergencies and EMT is also increasing. Job growth through 2012 is projected to be faster than normal. As the baby boomer generation ages, they will require more medical services, spurring more demand for EMT’S. EMT’S are in demand especially in rural areas and smaller metropolitan areas. In addition to jobs arising from growth, openings will occur because of replacement needs; turnover is relatively high in this occupation because of the limited potential for advancement and the modest pay and benefits in private-sector jobs.

EMT-Intermediates and EMT-Paramedics have the best opportunities as people demand better and better care. A large majority of EMT-Basics is employed by fire departments, private ambulance services and various EMS organizations. In the past few years there has been an increased demand for their skills in private industry, businesses, and hospital emergency clinical care areas. Many graduates have used the EMT-B knowledge and skills as a basis for pursuing other allied health disciplines such as nursing or medical school. Future trends are for EMT-B’s to be involved in community and personnel educational activities; systems design, development and evaluation; and publication for research.

The Emergency medical services(EMT) offers career training for entry level positions in Emergency medical settings. Ambulance companies, fire departments, police departments and various other industries requiring emergency medical services may employ emergency medical technicians. After successful completion of all requirements for EMT-Basic, Intermediate or paramedic training , the student is eligible to apply and take the respective state certification exams. Other emergency medical training offered includes first responder, first aid, CPR and EMT continuing education. With the rapid growth in the Denver areas there comes the need for expanded emergency services. Fire departments are hiring throughout the Denver metro area. EMT-Basic is a pre-requisite for application in most departments. Private ambulance companies are also expanding. EMT-Basics with a strong knowledge base and proficient skills are needed in this area of EMT. Occasionally, emergency departments hire EMT-Basics as emergency room technicians.

ELIGIBILTY REQUIRED FOR BECOMING AN EMT


- Be at least 18 years of age
- A valid NYS DOH EMS- Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- A motor vehicle driver’s license valid in NY State (does not require a NYS Driver’s license; a valid driver’s license from another state is OK so long as you have not lost driving privileges in NYS (For example, due to outstanding fines or judgments, etc.)
- EMT'S should be emotionally stable, have good dexterity, agility and physical coordination, and be able to lift and carry heavy loads.
- EMT’S need good eyesight (corrective lenses may be used) with accurate color vision. They require a calm temperament and the ability to make quick and level-headed decisions, and be able to follow precise procedures and instructions.

Earnings of EMT’S depend on the employment setting and geographic location as well as the individual’s training and experience. But every work is not done for money but also for the sake of people and their willingness. And EMT’S are the one who always think about wellness of the people.
